Khusnul Khoiriyah, S.Pd., the English Teacher of MAN 1 Bandar Lampung
Khusnul Khoiriyah is an English teacher at MAN 1 Bandar Lampung. Usually, the students call her Miss Khoir, but her close friends and family always call her, Unul. She was born in 1992 at Central Lampung.
Her journey began after graduating from senior high school in 2010, when she continued her studies in the English Department at Ahmad Dahlan University (UAD), Yogyakarta. She felt very grateful to study there, especially after previously being disappointed for not being accepted at one of the universities in Lampung. Over time, she realized that Allah had a better plan, bringing her to Yogyakarta for a meaningful reason.
In reflection, she believes that Allah’s plan is always better than human expectations—what seems like a disappointment may actually be a direction toward something greater.
During her life in Yogyakarta, she grew more confident and developed herself through various activities. She joined organizations such as EDSA and Senyum Kita Foundation, where she taught children in orphanages and took part in academic and social activities.
Her passion for teaching began to grow stronger during this time, especially in working with young learners. That’s why in her final semester, she challenged herself by teaching at a formal school and some English courses. While teaching, she began to realize that her knowledge still limited and encouraged her to continue her studies. With full support from her parents, she finally decided to pursue a master’s degree at UNY in the year of 2015.
After spending around eight years living away from home, she eventually chose to return to her hometown in 2018 at her parents’ request. Although it was not an easy decision, she accepted it wholeheartedly out of love and respect for them.
At that stage of her life, she faced a period of uncertainty, standing at emotional struggles between building a career and getting married. Although it was a challenging time, she chose to keep moving. Along the way, she received several opportunities, including became a lecturer at STKIP Tunas Palapa, as well as teaching at SMP N 6 Terbanggi Besar and MAN 1 Lampung Tengah.
Shortly, while she was beginning to receive several teaching opportunities, her mother passed away. It was a very painful moment for her and made her feel like her world had fallen apart. She had to find strength again and continue her life. Slowly, she chose to rise, holding onto her responsibilities and dreams. She still continued teaching at some places and founded a learning course, EMC (English Math Course) at home during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Besides teaching, she also developed a strong interest in writing. Her hobby of reading and collecting books inspired her to establish a reading community called “Rumah Baca Jendelaku.” She also actively wrote on her personal blog and worked with her colleagues to publish an anthology book entitled “Memeluk Takdir”. In her writings, she shared her life journey, including stories of loss, struggles, and how she came to understand the meaning of destiny.
While continuing her efforts in some ways, she applied for the CPNS selection for the second time. With strong determination and careful preparation, Alhamdulillah she successfully passed the test. She was then appointed as an English teacher under the Ministry of Religious Affairs at MAN 1 Bandar Lampung, marking an important milestone in her career.
In the end, she believes that life is a continuous process filled with struggles, effort, and gratitude. Every step she has taken is part of a journey shaped by hard work and sincere prayers.
She understands that success does not always come quickly, but as long as she keeps moving forward, even slowly, she will eventually reach her goals. Through patience, and faith, she continues to dedicate herself to education and hopes to inspire her students to believe in their own journeys as well. Keep moving!!
